HINCKLEY INSTITUTE LAUNCHES INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIPs
August 17, 2006 "U of U Hinckley Institute of Politics Receives Funding for Internships Abroad" (UU News Release)
The Hinckley Institute of Politics provides local, state, and national internships and is now expanding its international internship program due to a generous donation from Asian philanthropist Li Ka Shing. The Hinckley Institute will now provide University of Utah undergraduate students with paid international internships in cities across the world. The goal of the international internship program is to provide students experience in global public policy, service, business, and politics as well as foster greater understanding among peoples, cultures, and governments.

Internship LOCAtions
The Hinckley Institute sends students to a variety of locations around the globe. Locations include: Armenia, Australia, Belgium, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Ecuador, England, Ethiopia, Greece, Honduras, India, Italy, Lituania, Spain, Malaysia, Mexico, Mozambique, Paraguay, Peru, Scotland, Taiwan, Thailand, and Ukraine. Internship locations vary from semester to semester and the list of international internships is continually expanding as further opportunities become available. The Hinckley Institute also sponsors students who obtain global internships through the U.S. State Department and other organizations.

Dates may vary slightly due to location; however they generally coincide with the University of Utah semester schedule:

General Information
- Students may apply to receive an international cash award scholarship through the Hinckley Institute ranging from $500 to $5,000 to assist with tuition, travel, housing, and living expenses. To apply for an international scholarship, fill out and turn in the International Scholarship Application.
- Students must register for political science 4900 credit (3-12 hours) during the semester in which they intern
- Students are primarily responsible for finding their own housing (the intern host office may assist with this process).
- Students must obtain a passport and visa to travel. For more information on visas, click here.
Requirements
- Competitive GPA
- Junior or Senior status (students may intern one semester after graduation, but they must still register for credit)
- Undergraduate students only
- Available to students of all majors
Preferred
- Language skills
- Students who have completed previous Hinckley internships in Washington, DC, the Utah Legislature or with local/state agencies
- International Experience, Study Abroad Experience

We recommend that you complete your international internship application two semester prior to the semester in which you wish to intern. Deadlines are subject to change based on internship availability. Please contact the Hinckley Institute for more information.
